I don’t know if the problem is with the Tahoe beta or with the new multiplayer feature - but I am completely unable to play this game anymore. The option for a single player game no longer exists that I can find, and trying to select anything on the menus with my mouse requires hovering half an inch below the menu option I want to click. Very disappointing, but it IS Aspyr.
Everything was running smoothly for me and this game until the update came along. Since then, I can’t play more than 4 or 5 turns of a game without it crashing. I have tried lowering the graphic settings and other things I know to try , but it still won’t last for more than a few turns. Overall, the game is OK. I had read early reviews that said that Civ VI took the “boring mid-game part” and made it interesting again, but that really hasn’t been my experience. Cultural victories are way, way to easy against the AI, even on higher difficulty modes and the “districts” aspect, while an interesting concept, just makes for the same building slog that existed in previous Civ games, just with a couple more decisions to make. I will not repeat, but will only confirm, all complaints about the AI being off or just plain weird in some cases. Hopefully, future updates will improve these things, though it won’t matter to me if my crashing issue doesn’t improve.
This is an awesome game. I think I like it better than Civ 7. This latest release still doesn’t fix LAN game creation for me. The app still freezes as soon as I click on Local Network.
How are you going to create a civilization game and leave Persia out of it. This game does not compare to Civilization V which I think was a much better game. Definitely regret buying this one.
This one is just not for me. I love 2, 3 4, and 5. This one was just not for me.
I agree with other reviews: the graphics are indeed more cartoonish. However, the involvement of city-states to which you can levy adds in a more exciting way to get a domination victory. The addition forces you to keep in check with neighboring city-states which could potentially turn on you if you are to lose suzerianship. Personally, after playing Civ IV and Civ V, this game has made winning more of a challenge. It makes you sit back and play more defensive because of the warmongerer penalties.Unfortunantly, the game is a tad slow for me on my mac, even on some of the lower graphics. Then there was the recent update here a few days ago. I was so frustrated when I came home for the day, completely exhausted, and found that "Civilization VI quit unexpectedly". Every time I went to open the game, this message pops up. After two or three days, I got nervous that I'd have to delete the game and reinstall and lose all my progress. I'm still waiting for the game to fix. Otherwise, I truly enjoy the game. Me and my dad sat for hours playing a multiplayer match. Once you get the hang of the mechanics, you'll be addicted. I think that if you have a decently fast computer and as long as you are okay with a mild cartoon-y feeling, Civilization VI is a great game.
Thanks for the kind words -3The latest version has that error fixed. Please let us know if you run into any other problems!
This game shocked me. I was very impressed at first the intro was quite amusing I thought this was going to look amazing. The graphics were good for the intro but then when you play it actually it looks cheezy. It’s only about half way in my empire where I decided that this was the best game ever. You can declare wars, trade with others, you can create your own personal empire and start again and get a completely different result. You can be a man of mass destruction or a man of peace. Peace is where the key lies embedded in this game which shows you how fun it can be to start your own world in a simple $60 game. The game is definitely over priced but I was so excited to open the gates to creativity I had to buy this game. I am not disappointed I am simply relieved. The stress deciding if I should buy it or not was tough but after trailers upon trailers and gameplay, I decided this is going to be mine. This game is actually historically correct in cities depending on your leader. Overall this game is quite fun it kept me on it for hours just wanting me to develop to my new age and then again to my new empire rebuilt. Those who attack must be attacked and where I stand my ground is where the birth of life was given.
First off, don’t believe the hype about crashes; flukes happen and it seems a few dozen vocal individuals got unlucky. I’m running a 2013 MacBook Air and haven’t experienced any problems beyond a minor annoyance (i.e. a bit of lag at first when loading a game that’s pretty far along, which is entirely expected and understandable). I grew up playing Civ II, it was one of my favorite games. Civ IV failed to recapture the magic. I played Civ V on a console rather than a computer, and didn’t really enjoy it. Given all that, Civ VI was a wonderful breath of fresh air! I got this game right away when it came out and really enjoyed it, but before long it got pretty stale. What it was missing was scenarios—starting in the middle of a story and accomplishing certain goals against specific opponents. The same few countries always seemed to be overpowered, and gameplay got boring. Now that a bunch of expansions have come out, there is a LOT more variety, not to mention all the new scenarios that come with each one! This game is WONDERFUL!!
Glad to hear that you're having fun. Take one more turn for me! :)
I have played this game for a very long time it always worked, the lag was't that bad (despite what some people say, just update from a potato), The expansions are awesome but I have one problem... I CAN'T PLAY THE GAME. when the gathering storm update came out I was so exited. I went to update it, read some things about it, and watched the trailers for some things. I was looking forward for the canals and new civs. but when it finished updating nothing happened! the update just stayed there. No problem right? Just try update again maby refresh your mac? WRONG! I tried to update a second time, third, forth, nothing happened. I wanted the update so bad I went as far as deleting the app to download it again. After I deleted it I cna't download it because it's stil on my mac but when I click it a message that reads this application cannot be opened. I go to the app store but it says to download the app again. I push the button to download but the only thing that happens is a message saying not enough disk space. this may be a problem with apple and not Aspyr. but i need someone to help me. If someone can help me get the game that would be awesome.
I am glad that it is now playable on apple silicon without rosetta. So good job to the guys bringing this game to Mac. I will bump the score up to two stars. I wish Firaxis would just develop for Mac but at least we have aspyre. Right now the game is unfortunately unplayable on a non main monitor even if you tell the Mac to treat that as your main monitor. So using an external monitor on a MacBook doesn’t work and using AVP as a monitor for Mac doesn’t work. There is something weird going on where buttons don’t visually show up even if they are there and you have to click far below them and sometime offset either to the right or left. And this isn’t just me, you can find people talking about it. Also this happens both on a Mac mini and on a MacBook so it isn’t just my machine. I think if that issue is fixed this would bump up to a 4 or 5 out of 5 stars game. The core Civ 6 game is amazing. The fact that it is unplayable on a second monitor breaks the experience though.
I have played every version of Civilization. Since the game was announced, I was anxious to get it, knowing I was getting a new MacBook Pro at the beginning of the year. I went to buy it a week ago and noticed the numerous bad reviews…. I thought there just could be no way that this game could possibly be that bad. Firaxis and Aspyr have made too many great games - and anything with Sid Meier’s name on it has always been fun. WRONG!! Total waste of the money. The AI is the most rediculious thing I’ve ever encountered. Several of the bugs are in fact there, though I think the newer your machine is, the less of a problem they are. But for me, what makes this game absolutely the worst title ever made by this company, is the horrible game play. If the idea of rival nations attaining nuclear weapons 200 turns into the game (and about 100 before you possibly can) is the “level AI playing field” you’ve been looking for, knock yourself out. However if you’ve enjoyed the rich complexity of previous versions and actually developing CIVILIATIONS (you know, like the title of the series implies???) then AVOID THIS GAME!!!
Sorry to see you are having issues with Civilization 6.Make sure your Mac meets the minimum system requirements to play the game. We see a lot of issues on machines that are not powerful enough to run the game.If you meet all system requirements, please contact our support site so we can look into this issue.https://support.aspyr.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
I am a longtime Civilization fan, from Civ II forward. As such, I may be biased in favor of the franchise. I bought this almost as soon as it came out, and was very disappointed. However, each update significantly improves playability and balance. I don’t know if y’al recall, but Civ V was the same way. I didn’t like Civ V at first, but they improved it over a few years such that it is now a great game. There’s no question that Civ VI still needs gameplay enhancements, but the basic setup is fun, with good replayability. I am running it on a Mac Pro 5,1 12-core 3.46 GHz with 48 GB ra, a 7970 video card from MacVidCards, and a 30” Apple Cinema Display (2440 by 1600), and I don’t have any problems with graphics. If I totally max out the settings, it takes a little longer between turns. I would be interesting if anyone is playing with an Nvidia graphics card.
