Handle print service attribute changes
In this example we are going to see how to handle print services attributes changes in a Java Desktop Applications. This will give you more control when handling print jobs inside your application.
To handle print service attribute changes one should take these steps:
- Use
PrintServiceLookup.lookupDefaultPrintService()to locate the default print service for this environment. - Create a class that implements
PrintServiceAttributeListener. - Override
attributeUpdatemethod to customize the handling of that specific event. Now every time a print attribute changes, this method will fire up. - Use
PrintServiceAttributeEvent.getAttributesto get the print attibutes and the updated values.
Let’s see the code:
package com.javacodegeeks.snippets.desktop;
import javax.print.PrintService;
import javax.print.PrintServiceLookup;
import javax.print.attribute.Attribute;
import javax.print.event.PrintServiceAttributeEvent;
import javax.print.event.PrintServiceAttributeListener;
public class HandlePrintServiceAttributeChanges {
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
// Locate the default print service for this environment.
PrintService service = PrintServiceLookup.lookupDefaultPrintService();
service.addPrintServiceAttributeListener(new CustomPrintServiceAttributeListener());
}
private static class CustomPrintServiceAttributeListener implements PrintServiceAttributeListener {
@Override
public void attributeUpdate(PrintServiceAttributeEvent psae) {
Attribute[] attrs = psae.getAttributes().toArray();
for (int i=0; i<attrs.length; i++) {
String attrName = attrs[i].getName();
String attrValue = attrs[i].toString();
System.out.println("Attribute updated : " + attrName + " with value: " + attrValue);
}
}
}
}
This was an example on how to handle print service attribute changes.
