  • Potatoes are the world’s third most important food crop, so how do farmers grow potatoes — from tiny seeds? Not quite. 🥔 Potatoes reproduce through vegetative propagation, meaning a new plant can grow from a potato or even a piece of one, known as a “seed.” Each plant can produce 5–20 new tubers — genetic clones of the original seed potato. In Rwanda, we’re working to close the country’s potato yield gap. While it’s possible to produce up to 25 metric tons of potatoes per hectare, farmers currently average around 8.7 metric tons per hectare*. A major reason why is that farmers lack access to high-quality, locally adapted potato seeds. Through work at the RICA Seed Center and a network of farmers, we’re increasing the supply of high-quality seed tubers and helping Rwandan farmers grow stronger, higher-yielding crops that feed their families and strengthen food security. 🇷🇼 * The Seasonal Agriculture Survey, Season A 2025

  • 👋🏿 Meet 22-year-old Buchu Mada in Ethiopia. Support from One Acre Fund is opening doors to a more hopeful future for young farmers like Buchu. The trees he’s received through One Acre Fund will yield food for years to come. Even though he hopes to complete his studies and become a doctor, he still plans to continue with farming alongside practicing medicine, showing how integral the trees are to his future. Your support helps farm families like Buchu’s put food on the table now while gaining the skills, access to markets, and resilience tools they need to thrive for years to come — so they can nourish today and flourish tomorrow. Thank you!

  • The global macadamia market is booming — valued at $1.58 billion in 2022, it is now projected to reach $3.57 billion by 2030, growing at 9.3% annually. As global demand for healthy, plant-based foods rises, One Acre Fund is working to ensure smallholder farmers share in that opportunity. Through our macadamia program, we help farmers improve nut quality, connect with reliable buyers, and access transparent digital payment systems. From harvest to factory processing, these systems create fairer, more efficient markets — so farmers can earn sustainable incomes from this expanding sector. When market access is fair, growth becomes an opportunity for everyone. 🌱

  • At just 26 and 20 years old, Ildephonse Irambona and Cynthia Iradukunda are already transforming their future through farming. 🌱 From their home in Mwaro, Burundi, the young couple joined the One Acre Fund program in 2023 — and the impact has been remarkable. “The income I generated from my surplus harvest allowed me to save and invest in other important assets: I built a new house, bought a bicycle to help with transport and carrying my harvest, and even purchased additional arable land,” says Ildephonse. As well as building a new home, Ildephonse and Cynthia paid their daughter’s school fees and bugun saving for new business ventures. Their next goal? Expanding their farm and becoming certified seed multipliers to help others in their community grow more, too. Supporting young farmers like Ildephonse and Cynthia helps entire communities thrive, creating jobs, ensuring food security, and fostering hope for the next generation.

  • For farmers like Jenipher Michongwe in Malawi, resilience starts with the soil beneath their feet. 🌱 After years of declining fertility and erosion, Jenipher began planting trees with support from One Acre Fund — species that enrich the soil, retain moisture, and protect her crops. “During the previous farming season, I could see that maize grown closer to the trees was looking healthier than the maize that was planted on the side of the field where there are no trees.” Jenipher’s story reflects what we’re seeing across the region: farmers investing in agroforestry are improving yields, restoring degraded land, and securing long-term food security for their families. At One Acre Fund, we’re helping farmers like Jenipher access the tools, training, and support they need to build resilience — one tree at a time. 🌳

  • We believe transparency builds trust — and impact deserves to be measured. Our 2024 Annual Report highlights how we turned donor support into measurable prosperity for farmers. Last year, our full-service programme became 38% more cost-effective, meaning every $1 of donor support generated $5.34 in new profits and assets for farmers. 🎉 Now, we are looking to finish 2025 on a strong note and build for 2026. Rigorous measurement guides everything we do. By openly sharing our data — successes and challenges alike — we stay accountable to our mission: helping farmers become more prosperous, efficiently and at scale. 📈 Read the full report and explore our impact on our website.

  • How does a journalist end up shaping policies that impact farmers’ lives? Yael Hartmann, our Global Director of Government Relations and Policy, shares how her journey took her from telling stories to shaping policies, and what it means to be a woman in leadership driving impact for farmers. • Sometimes, your dream job changes when your definition of impact does! If you had asked Christine a few years ago what her dream career was, she wouldn’t have hesitated. “Fintech in banking,” she’d say with confidence. Fast forward a few years and her story looks completely different, now leading our farmer extension programs in Kenya. What made her take this leap? And what is it about working with farmers that sparked her interest? 👇🏾 https://bit.ly/4mlRMAb #LifeAtOneAcreFund #ImpactCareers

  • Harnessing technology to build resilience — one farmer at a time. 🧑🏿🌾 Smallholder farmer Mourice Oluoch receives daily weather forecasts straight to his phone through One Acre Fund’s Digital Weather Advisory Service. For farmers like Mourice, access to reliable, local weather data can mean the difference between a successful harvest and a season lost to unpredictable weather. Across sub-Saharan Africa, smallholders produce much of the region’s food — yet remain among the most exposed to erratic rainfall and drought. Digital tools such as weather advisories and precision agronomy recommendations are helping close that gap, empowering farmers to make informed decisions and protect their livelihoods. Modern agriculture demands modern solutions. By investing in farmer-first technology, we can turn data into opportunity, resilience into prosperity, and potential into lasting impact. 🌱
