Gather campaign data from your advertising platforms to import into Google Analytics

The steps for exporting campaign data from advertising platforms for import into Google Analytics are different based on the specific platform being used.

This article provides the instructions and resources for the various platforms that are supported. Given that these platforms don’t necessarily supply data using the same format that is native to Analytics, it’s up to you to ensure that the data you export from these platforms is consistent with the format Analytics expects. LinkedIn

To use LinkedIn’s Campaign Manager to export campaign data:

  1. Navigate to the Campaigns or Reporting section, which is typically your main dashboard.
  2. Set your date range. 12 months is recommended.
  3. Click Export.
  4. Customize the columns to include the following required and recommended dimensions and metrics:
    • Date (Required)
    • Campaign Name and/or Campaign ID (Recommended if used in your UTMs)
    • Amount Spent (Cost)
    • Clicks
    • Impressions (optional, but recommended)
  5. Select the Daily Time Breakdown so each row represents a single day's performance for a specific campaign.
  6. Click the Export button to download the file.
  7. Verify the format of exported fields, especially Date which is expected to be ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD.

Meta

To use Meta Ads Manager to export your data:

  1. In Ads Manager, navigate to your Ads Reporting section.
  2. Set your date range. 12 months is recommended.
  3. Add the “Breakdown” by date, ensuring this is by day.
  4. Select the option to customize your report to include the dimensions and metrics:
    • Date
    • Campaign Name and/or Campaign ID (if you use these in your UTMs)
    • Total Spend (Cost)
    • Clicks
    • Impressions (optional, but recommended)
  5. Click the Export icon.
  6. Verify the format of exported fields, especially Date which is expected to be ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD.

To use Microsoft Advertising reports to export a CSV file of your data:

  1. Navigate to your Reports section.
  2. Click on Standard Reports.
  3. Select a report type that includes campaign performance data, such as “Campaign performance”.
  4. Set your date range. 12 months is recommended.
  5. Ensure the “Time Unit” or “Aggregation” setting is set to “Day”.
  6. Select the option to customize your report to include the dimensions and metrics:
    • Date
    • Campaign Name and/or Campaign ID (if you use these in your UTMs)
    • Total Spend (Cost)
    • Clicks
    • Impressions (optional, but recommended)
  7. Select CSV or TSV format
  8. Click the Download icon.
  9. Verify the format of exported fields, especially Date which is expected to be ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD.

You can also use Microsoft Reporting API to export data for campaigns.

To use Pinterest Ads Manager to export your data:

  1. Navigate to the Reporting section.
  2. Set your date range. 12 months is recommended.
  3. Add the “Time Breakdown” option and ensure this is set to “Day”.
  4. Use the "Customize Columns" option to include the dimensions and metrics listed below:
    • Date
    • Campaign Name and/or Campaign ID (if you use these in your UTMs)
    • Spend (Cost)
    • Outbound Clicks (The metric that represents clicks leading off-site)
    • Impressions (optional, but recommended)
  5. Click the Export icon and select CSV.
  6. Verify the format of exported fields, especially Date which is expected to be ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD.
Note: Pinterest doesn’t provide built-in support for Source and Medium. You can hard code the source and medium values based on how you tagged your ads with UTM parameters for each campaign ID.

Snap

To use Snap Ads Manager to export your data:

  1. Navigate to the Reporting section.
  2. Set your date range. 12 months is recommended.
  3. Select the "Time Granularity" option and ensure this is set to “Daily”.
  4. Use the "Customize Columns" option to include the dimensions and metrics listed below:
    • Date
    • Campaign Name and/or Campaign ID (if you use these in your UTMs)
    • Spend (Cost)
    • Swipes (Snap's equivalent of Clicks)
    • Impressions (optional, but recommended)
  5. Click the Export icon and select CSV.
  6. Verify the format of exported fields, especially Date which is expected to be ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD.
Note: Snap doesn’t provide built-in support for Source and Medium. You can hard code the source and medium values based on how you tagged your ads with UTM parameters for each campaign ID.

Reddit

To use Reddit Ads Manager to export your data:

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard.
  2. Set your date range. 12 months is recommended.
  3. Use the "Customize Columns" option to include the dimensions and metrics listed below:

    • Campaign Name and/or Campaign ID (if you use these in your UTMs)
    • Spend (Cost)
    • Swipes (Snap's equivalent of Clicks)
    • Impressions (optional, but recommended)
  4. Select the Granularity or Group by option and ensure this is set to “Day”.
  5. Click the Export icon and select CSV.
  6. Verify the format of exported fields, especially Date which is expected to be ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD.

Use the Export option in the upper right section of your campaign dashboard to export a CSV file of your campaign data.

To use Campaign dashboard to export a CSV file of your data:

  1. Navigate to your Campaign dashboard
  2. Set your date range. 12 months is recommended.
  3. Click Export
  4. Select the daily aggregation option.
  5. Verify the necessary fields are included & the format of exported fields, especially Date which is expected to be ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD.
    • Date
    • Campaign Name and/or Campaign ID (if you use these in your UTMs)
    • Total Spend (Cost)
    • Clicks
    • Impressions (optional, but recommended)
