You may have issues with Google Contacts. You may receive an error message, or may not be able to access Contacts. Check the fixes below for these issues.
"Gmail is temporarily unable to access your contacts"
Try again in a few minutes while we work to fix the problem.
While we fix it, you can still email people in Gmail when you type their full email address.
"Can't update contact"
If you get this error, you might have exceeded your Contacts storage quota. This means you might have saved too many contacts, or too much info for one contact.
You can save up to 25,000 contacts or 20 MB with photos not included.
For each contact, you can save up to:
- 128 KB
- 1,024 characters per field (except "Notes")
- 500 fields total
You can also:
- Delete contacts from your Trash.
- Export & back up contacts, then delete the contacts you don't need.
- Merge duplicate contacts.
- Cut words from contact fields.
Contacts service is not available
If you do not have access to Google Contacts, the Contacts service will need to be turned on for your work, school, or other group domain. Ask your domain admin to turn on Contacts by signing in to their Google Workspace control panel, finding Contacts, and clicking the "Add" button.
