Move media from one cast device to another

Move music, podcasts, radio and YouTube videos currently streaming from your Google smart speaker, display, or streaming device to another Nest speaker, speaker group, display, or Google streaming device.

Supported devices

  • Google smart speakers: Google Home, Google Nest Mini (2nd gen), Google Home Mini (1st gen), Google Home Max, Google Nest Audio
  • Google Nest Displays: Google Nest Hub or Google Nest Hub Max
  • Streaming devices: Google TV Streamer (4K), Chromecast with Google TV, Chromecast (2nd or 3rd gen), Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast Audio, or devices that work with Google Cast
  • Speaker groups

Supported media

Important: If media doesn't play, check if Use Restricted Mode is turned on in your device's YouTube settings.
  • Any audio, except news and media playing through Bluetooth
  • YouTube for videos

With your voice

You can use these phrases to move media with the voice assistant on your speaker or display.

If you use Gemini for Home voice assistant

To: Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then:
Transfer media to another device "Transfer to <device name>"
"Move the music to <device name>"
"Cast to <device name>"
Move and cast media

“Move this music from the [Bedroom speaker] to the [Living room speaker], and then play rain ambiance video from Youtube to the [Bedroom smart display] and keep it on repeat.“

If you use Google Assistant

To: Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then:
Transfer media to another device "Transfer to <device name>"
"Move the music to <device name>"
"Cast to <device name>"

From your Nest display

Google Nest Hub
  1. On your Nest Hub's Home screen, tap the active media card to bring up the media player.
  2. At the bottom left corner of the screen, tap Devices  to find the list of available devices and speaker groups.
  3. Select the device(s) you want to move your media to.
  4. Deselect the device(s) you want to move your media from.
Google Nest Hub Max
  1. On your Nest Hub Max’s Home screen, tap the active media card to bring up the media player.
  2. At the bottom left corner of the screen, tap Devices  to find the list of available devices and speaker groups.
  3. Select the device(s) you want to move your media to.
  4. Deselect the device(s) you want to move your media from.

From the Google Home app

  1. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your speaker, display, streaming device, or Pixel Tablet.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app
  3.  Tap Home  and then Favorites .
  4. On the media player, tap the name of the active speaker.
    • If you have more than one player open, swipe on the player to select the one you want.
  5. Select the device(s) you want to move your media to.
  6. Uncheck the device(s) you want to move your media from.
