Last week, Banner–University Medical Center Phoenix Liver Transplant Institute hosted Ask the Experts, an educational event presented in partnership with the American Liver Foundation, represented by CEO Lorraine Stiehl. The two-hour interactive educational program discussed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a common yet often overlooked liver condition affecting communities nationwide. Thank you to the Banner provider team and the ALF team for their continued support of this community program.

New research published in Nature Medicine is shedding light on how daily physical activity may help protect memory and thinking skills in older adults. Dr. Jeremy Pruzin, a neurologist and researcher at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, served as a co-author on the study, which followed nearly 300 adults for up to 14 years. The research suggests that even moderate daily movement—roughly 5,000 to 7,500 steps—was associated with slower cognitive decline in people already showing early biological signs of Alzheimer’s disease. While the study does not prove causation, it adds to the growing evidence that physical activity is a modifiable behavior that may support better brain health as we age.
