StyleBlueprint’s feature on our CEO, Tina L. Doniger is a masterclass in what it looks like to combine strategy, heart, and a zero-tolerance policy for anything that compromises dignity. Under Tina's leadership, the CRC has redefined what it means to care for our neighbors — offering choice, respect, and humanity alongside hygiene essentials that make daily life possible. Take a moment for a quick read on how we're making it work in the aftermath of the government shutdown and what it means to make dignity non-negotiable. Middle Tennessee's ONLY Hygiene Hub. Supplying dignity with every bar of soap distributed.
About us
Our mission is to provide critical essential items to our most vulnerable Middle Tennessee neighbors, both during times of disaster and during seasons of ongoing need. Founded in 1985, the Community Resource Center (known locally at the CRC) began as a simple wish-list published in The Tennessean asking the community to donate basic household items for people in need. Since then, the CRC has become Nashville’s lead agency in times of crisis, and the nonprofit community’s go-to resource for ongoing essential product needs. More than 300 nonprofit agencies across 9 counties in Middle Tennessee rely on the CRC to provide thousands of hygiene and cleaning kits throughout the year. The CRC manages this from its own 5,000-square-foot warehouse and office space in Nashville at which product is received, stored, packaged and distributed. In 2020 and 2021, the CRC provided approximately $10 million in product to both our nonprofit partners and directly to clients, reaching over 1 Million people in our coverage area. The CRC is the official materials manager for the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management in Davidson County. From the 2010 Nashville flood to the 2020 tornados in Nashville through ongoing COVID-19 relief, the CRC has been able to immediately receive, store, inventory and redistribute donations for effective and efficient disaster relief and recovery. In a crisis, the CRC is able to expand its reach and secure additional warehouse space to manage the rapid influx of incoming donations. As a volunteer-driven agency, our ability to rally, organize and deploy volunteers allows us to scale up immediately to meet the needs of a community in crisis.

🥰 Some sweet messaging our partner, Hands of Hope food pantry in Portland, TN, shared regarding how the CRC is rising to meet the needs of our food pantry partners during this time. 💓 We know that food insecurity and hygiene insecurity are deeply connected. When families are forced to stretch every dollar, essentials like soap, deodorant, shampoo, and period products sometimes become optional. With the pause of SNAP, more pressure has been placed on our neighbors and on the food pantry network to help fill the gaps of individuals and families this November. The CRC remains committed to stepping up and coming alongside our partners to make sure dignity doesn't remain optional, that it really is for everyone. SNAP doesn't cover the basics, but the CRC does. We're so grateful for the work Hands of Hope is doing in their community and for Nashville neighbors. 🫶 #governmentshutdown #SNAP #foodpantrypartner #dignityforall #CRCmidTN #hygieneishope

Meet Sindy, one of the incredible voices helping us lead the charge towards combatting hygiene insecurity in Middle Tennessee. She has been serving on the Board of Directors Finance Committee for the CRC since the beginning of the year! She's been an amazing wealth of knowledge and brings passion and heart for Nashville neighbors in need. We're abundantly grateful for her as she helps us continue driving the mission of the Community Resource Center forward. Thank you, Sindy for who you are and for all that you do! #boardmember #crcmidtn #dignityforall

You don’t have to do it all—but you can do something. Your donation puts dignity and essentials in the hands of those who need them most. #MakeADifferenceDay #CommunityImpact #GiveHope

Let's talk government shutdown. SNAP- in 2024, this program served approximately 41.7 million individuals per month WIC- in 2024, this program served approximately 6.7 million individuals per month. While food assistance programs received benefits for October 2025 if the federal government shutdown continues, benefits for November may not be issued. As food insecurity continues to rise across Middle Tennessee, partner organizations like Inspiritus are already seeing record demand—up nearly 50% since last year. While families struggle to put food on the table even with the help of these programs, many are also going without basic hygiene essentials. That’s where partnership matters. At Community Resource Center, we work alongside our partner organizations to ensure families don’t have to choose between a full stomach and a clean start. Together, we’re helping Tennesseans access both nourishment and dignity. Because everyone deserves both. The caveat to all of this is that food banks, diaper banks, hygiene banks, and similar organizations are already facing 20–30% inflation on the basic products we distribute to families in need. And unfortunately, the strain is only growing. With decisions being made far away and the consequences of those decisions landing right here at home, how can we rise to the occasion of meeting the needs of our neighbors? Here's how: Be the good and show up for your community. Consider making a donation, monetary or product, to the banks in your community who are manning the frontlines of combatting poverty. Sign up for a volunteer shift even. Whatever you can do is more than enough. Fun fact: Those are CRC bins behind Janet in the interview. 🫶 #HygieneForAll #FoodSecurity #CommunityPartners #Inspiritus #CRC #NashvilleNonprofitshttps Read the article here: //https://lnkd.in/ekEj6Fjg

In 2025, 18 states STILL tax period products. In case you weren't aware, the state of Tennessee currently has one of the highest taxes imposed on these products. Period products are NOT a luxury item, so why are they taxed like one? At the CRC we’re are working diligently to ensure basic items that are unaffordable can be more accessible to those in need. Consider joining our dignity circle to ensure that we can continue that access across Middle Tennessee. Link to join in bio. #dignitycircle #whywednesday #crcmidtn #endperiodpoverty

It takes a village and our volunteers are the heart of ours. Gary has been a driving force in helping the CRC provide hygiene essentials to our neighbors. He comes in with some of his work colleagues regularly and the positivity and friendly competition amongst him and his coworkers brings so much joy to our crew. Seeing them laugh, have fun, and make a difference together is truly inspiring. Interested in bringing some team building activities to your staff? She’s the one who stands the front lines and directs traffic when the CRC has been activated during a disaster. She’s the one who can send out a call, like a CRC bat-signal, when there is a need and people will just show up because of who she is and how she shares her heart. She’s the one willing to jump in and cut casino cash for All In For Hygiene attendees just because she saw a need. She’s the one who listens first and speaks second. She’s the one other Nashville leaders turn to for wisdom, advice, intellect, and camaraderie. She’s the one who will probably not like this level of recognition on our social media platforms because she doesn’t do all that she does for attention- she does it because being a voice, an advocate, is engrained in every fiber of her being. She’s the one leading the charge for the Community Resource Center. She’s our CEO, but more importantly, she’s a hero. Happy Boss' Day, Tina L. Doniger
