At last Wednesday's Committee of the Whole meeting, Mayor Matson swore in Jeff VanderWiere as the new Fire Chief of Davenport. “I look forward to building on the department’s strong legacy by strengthening community partnerships and, most importantly, championing our firefighters- ensuring they have the tools, training, and support they need to serve with excellence.” We are thrilled to have Chief VanderWiere during the next chapter of leadership for the Davenport Fire Department.👏

Yesterday, the Davenport Fire Department celebrated the retirement of Fire Chief Mike Carlsten. Chief Carlsten began his fire service career in 1993 and over the years he has been part of various roles including car seat technician, HAZMAT Team member, and of course Fire Santa. We wish Chief Carlsten the best as he enters the next chapter of his life and thank him for his 32 years of dedicated service to our community. 👏🎉
