  • Ending preventable maternal mortality is within reach, but it requires the commitment of countries, donors, and researchers alike. That commitment is taking shape in Nigeria, where focused efforts to protect mothers and babies are delivering results. Over the past two years, maternal deaths have declined by 17% and newborn deaths by 10%—a promising sign of progress. Still, challenges remain. But with initiatives to improve nutrition, strengthen public health systems, and expand access to quality medicine, they’re demonstrating that when women and girls have access to the tools, services, and counseling they need to live healthy, productive lives, we all benefit. https://bit.ly/4pykKxR

CEO of the Gates Foundation. Working to ensure everyone can live a healthy life & reach their full potential. Father, husband, optimist.

Today, global leaders stepped up to pledge $11.34 billion for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. At a moment when funding for global health is declining, this is an important sign of continued global support. My thanks to Government ZA and the UK government for bringing the world together around this shared goal. We also expect more pledges to come in the near future. Still, not reaching the Global Fund’s target means fewer bed nets will reach communities, fewer treatments will reach people who need them and fewer lives will be saved from these preventable diseases. The Gates Foundation is proud to support the Global Fund as one of the most effective engines in health. With millions of lives on the line, we urge governments and private sector partners to continue to step up to support the Global Fund and help those affected by AIDS, TB, and malaria, while supporting economies and our collective global health security.

  • Evaline tragically lost a friend to tuberculosis. Devastated, she turned that loss into action—ensuring faster TB diagnostics, more effective treatment, and better care can reach those who need them. The Global Fund plays a core role in this effort, helping critical tools to reach more people, faster, and at scale. That’s what makes it one of the most effective engines in health—and why the world must step up and fund this continued progress. https://gates.ly/4rcxQTf

  • What can we learn from one country’s success in the fight against malaria? In Cabo Verde, where malaria was once the leading cause of death, the answer is: a lot. Government leadership, targeted investment and strong partners—like The Global Fund—have formed the core of a successful and ongoing effort to eliminate this disease. With over a dozen countries closing in on malaria elimination, supporting these powerful partnerships is more important than ever. https://lnkd.in/gdJwMsZm

  • Nearly 3.4 billion people around the world lack access to safe sanitation, putting them at greater risk of contracting diarrheal diseases like cholera and typhoid. As cities grow and populations rise, traditional sanitation solutions like sewers and septic tanks aren’t always feasible or sustainable. But what if a single household object could save lives (and even help grow a garden)? It exists—and it may not be what you expect. Cranfield University

Semiye loves making good things happen—and so do we. That’s why we support The Global Fund and its efforts to stop AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The Global Fund helps countries protect millions of people from malaria each year, ensuring critical tools—like insecticide-treated mosquito nets—reach more people, faster and at scale. That’s what makes it one of the most effective engines in health—and why the world must step up and fund this continued progress. https://gates.ly/4pfJye2
