When her 8-year-old neighbor needed help, Lissette Medina, PA at Holtz Children's Hospital, didn't hesitate. She performed CPR for over seven minutes until paramedics arrived. Her actions proved critical in saving young Dylan's life. Her quick response, along with the care provided by our teams at Jackson South, Holtz Children's Hospital, and Lynn Rehabilitation Center, helped guide Dylan through a remarkable recovery. Medina was recently honored with the Lifesaving Civilian Award by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR). Five lung transplants. 72 hours. One extraordinary team. This week, our lung transplant team at the Miami Transplant Institute achieved another remarkable milestone: five successful lung transplants in just three days. These complex surgeries were led by lung transplant surgeons Dr. Mariana Gil Barturen and Dr. Mauricio Pipkin, whose skill, leadership, and collaboration continue to elevate the field of transplant medicine. Dr. Gil Barturen served as the lead surgeon on four of the cases and is one of the few female lung transplant surgeons in the nation. The Jackson Heart Institute celebrated the opening of its newly renovated North Miami ambulatory practice with a ribbon-cutting event marking an important step in expanding access to high-quality cardiac care. The new multi-specialty group practice brings together general and interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and congestive heart failure management - all under one roof. Patients can also access echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, and stress tests for convenient and coordinated care. At this year’s Miami Book Fair, Dr. Chris Ghaemmaghami, MD, MHCM, FACHE, EVP, chief physician executive, and chief clinical officer at Jackson Health System, served as moderator for a captivating discussion with neurosurgeon and author Dr. Theodore Schwartz on his book Gray Matters: A Biography of Brain Surgery. Building brighter futures, together. 🌟   We recently kicked off our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami’s School-to-Work program at Jackson North!   Across our system, 14 mentors have been paired with students from Miami Edison Senior High School, beginning a year-long journey focused on career exploration, soft-skills development, and college readiness. Students will visit our campus monthly for guided learning, real-world exposure to healthcare careers, and one-on-one support from their mentors.   We’re excited to support a program that strengthens our community and empowers the next generation of professionals. #BigBrothersBigSisters #SchoolToWork #Mentorship #Community
