About us
MultiCare’s roots in the Pacific Northwest go back to 1882, with the founding of Tacoma’s first hospital. Over the years, we’ve grown from a Tacoma-centric, hospital-based organization into the largest, community-based, locally governed health system in the state of Washington. Today, our comprehensive system of health includes more than 300 primary, urgent, pediatric and specialty care locations across Washington, Idaho and Oregon, as well as 13 hospitals. We welcome patients from the entire Pacific Northwest region and our 20,000-plus team members — including employees, providers and volunteers — proudly care for the communities we serve. As we enter Thanksgiving, I’ve been reflecting on the moments from this past year that remind me why leadership, at its best, is an act of gratitude. These images represent experiences and milestones from this year, but what they also reflect are the people behind them. The leaders who offer clarity in uncertain times. The teams who lift one another up with quiet steadiness. The communities who trust us to serve with purpose. And countless individuals who always give their best. I am grateful for the way people have shown up for one another this year with generosity, with a willingness to embrace agility and with a shared commitment to doing what is right for our team members and communities. In a season that invites reflection, I’m reminded that our work matters because our people make it matter. Radioligand therapy — a new, innovative radiation treatment — is now offered at MultiCare Cancer Institute for individuals with advanced prostate cancer. Our Recruitment, Workforce Development, Clinical, and Patient Access teams attended the Tacoma Public Schools Trades & Career Event last week at the Tacoma Dome. We were proud to offer hands-on activities for students, families, and community members. Attendees practiced the basics of CPR, including chest compressions and providing breaths with a bag-valve mask. They also learned how to read a basic medication order, draw up medication, and administer it via IV. We also showcased our exciting growth and career pathway programs, including MultiCare Academy for Students in Healthcare (M.A.S.H. More than 1,300 MultiCare employees have served – or are serving – in the U.S. military. Of those, about 150 are active members of the Veteran Resource Group, a community dedicated to supporting veteran employees and strengthening connections across MultiCare. This Veterans Day, the resource group is offering commemorative pins to honor our veteran employees. These pins are another way for our veterans to connect with their coworkers and patients. “Recognizing military service is about connection,” says Matthew McCay, Veteran Advocacy Program manager and chair of the Veterans Resource Group. “When patients see that shared experience, it can facilitate better communication and quality of care." Military service fosters a unique cultural understanding that builds trust among patients and colleagues. Clinicians with military backgrounds are more likely to recognize service-related health patterns and document them accurately, ensuring patients receive care tailored to their needs. We are pleased to announce Brandon Mencini as the new president of MultiCare Auburn and MultiCare Covington medical centers. Mencini will lead MultiCare’s South King strategy, oversee both medical centers’ performance, and drive sustainable growth through improved patient care and strong team development. He joins MultiCare from Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center and Asante Ashland Community Hospital in southern Oregon, where he served as chief executive officer.
