The world's leading guide to science-based climate solutions.
About us
Project Drawdown is the world’s leading guide to science-based climate solutions. As a U.S.-based nonprofit, we are an independent, internationally-trusted organization driving bold, science-based approaches to stop climate change. Our work is built on three pillars: SCIENCE – Advancing Science-Based Climate Solutions and Strategies. First, we conduct cutting-edge research to identify the best possible climate solutions and design the most effective strategies to bring them to scale. Then, we share our findings with the world through effective science communication, marketing campaigns, and media partnerships. STAKEHOLDERS – Engaging Key Stakeholders and Empowering Bold Climate Leadership. Next, we use our science to inform, inspire, and empower key stakeholders and emerging climate leaders – including policymakers, community leaders, philanthropists, investors, business leaders, and others – to take bold action and bring the most effective solutions to the world. STORIES – Telling Human Stories of Solutions in Action. Finally, we use the power of storytelling to help shift the narrative on climate change – from problem to solution and from “doom and gloom” to “opportunity and possibility.” Along the way, we showcase new climate heroes putting solutions into action. In short, we believe that rigorous science is needed to guide climate action. And we believe that this science must be shared in actionable, compelling ways – through stakeholder engagement and powerful storytelling. Our job is to make this happen. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, non-partisan organization, Project Drawdown is funded by individual and institutional donations.

🌴 The Tropical Forest Forever Facility was one of the buzziest parts of COP30. But what is it, where does it stand, and what would make it even stronger? Check out this excellent piece from Paul West for those answers and more 👇
COP30 launched a $125B plan to protect 1 billion hectares of tropical forests—the size of Canada. The Tropical Forest Forever Facility could be a game-changer for climate action. 🌳🌍 But there is a lot of work to be done. Paul West, Sr Scientist, weighs in. https://bit.ly/48BI0FF

The Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) was launched at COP30. Heard about it but don't know much? Or just curious what the potential is? I wrote a quick Explainer on the TFFF, what it is, what's (potentially) great, and where it stands now. In addition to funding the program and get it up and running, I highlight a few areas that need to be improved: -Tropical rainforests with only 20% canopy cover are very degraded. Why is that the threshold? - The area-based monitoring is a strength and a weakness - The proposed administration of the program could create conflicts - Per hectare payments are far too low for many countries - The deforestation rate threshold is biased toward large countries - Action needs to be targeted

The holiday season is here — a time for good food and good company! 🍽️ It’s also a reminder that reducing food loss and waste is one of the most effective climate solutions available today, and one each of us can help advance. As an individual, you can make a difference by reducing the amount of food you waste. Some things you can do this holiday season: 🥦 Plan and shop mindfully. Buy only what you need by planning portion sizes and checking what you already have at home. 🌮 Get creative with leftovers. Store them properly and turn them into new meals rather than throwing them away. 💚 Share what you can’t use. Send guests home with leftovers or donate unopened items to local food programs. 🗣️ Let others know what you’re doing and why — so they can reduce their food waste, too. To learn more about actions you can take, from your immediate household to policies that work, business practices, and more, check out the Take Action section at the end of each solution! ⬇️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gGPf_HMH -- Drawdown Explorer is the world’s ultimate climate solutions platform – trillions of data points and thousands of hours of scientific analysis distilled into one easy-to-use website. Want to discover your role in stopping the climate crisis? 🌎 Drawdown’s Neighborhood, presented by Project Drawdown, is a series of short documentaries spotlighting the stories of climate solutions heroes, city by city. In this episode, meet Maggie Baird who founded Support+Feed with a vision to work at the intersection of the climate crisis, food equity, and food insecurity to address hunger. 🥦 Particularly in wealthy countries, eating a plant-rich diet is one of the most powerful actions an individual can take. Since livestock produce methane emissions and use a lot of land – often attained through deforestation – even small shifts toward eating more plants and less meat can make a big difference. It can also improve food equity by making nutritious, affordable meals more accessible while using fewer resources. 🎤 Join host and Project Drawdown storyteller Matt Scott as he “passes the mic” to Maggie and other local heroes. 📹 Watch on our Youtube: https://lnkd.in/gYbCjwAY #DrawdownsNeighborhood #DrawdownsNeighborhoodLA #climatesolutions #losangeles

"We did not see enough discussion about livestock or meat production in particular, or even diets in general. So I think this is a pretty big missed opportunity." Daniel Jasper, Sr Policy Advisor https://bit.ly/4afp4Oc Sentient
