As we approach next week’s break, our community across the San Juan Unified School District is reflecting on what they are grateful for at their school. 🍂🧡 Hear what students and staff at Thomas Kelly Elementary School, Starr King K-8, John Barrett Middle School, Encina High School and Rio Americano High School had to share. 🎥

Starr King receives generous donation of 500 pounds of food for families Jacob Daves, a third grader from private school Our Lady of Assumption delivered 500 pounds of food to Starr King K-8 just ahead of Thanksgiving. With help from his family, Jacob went door to door asking neighbors to contribute to the drive. When asked what motivated him, he said, “I don’t want students to go hungry.” Starr King K-8 didn't just thank him for his tremendous generosity; they presented Jacob with a certificate of appreciation in acknowledgment of his amazing act of kindness.

Growing together at Lichen garden!🌱 What began as one teacher’s dream to make learning more hands-on has blossomed into a thriving school garden at Lichen K-8 School! Students in Bryan Morris’s gardening class now enjoy a beautiful outdoor learning space with raised garden beds, fresh soil, colorful flowers and plans for a compost area. 🌿 They’re rolling up their sleeves and learning how to grow vegetables like lettuce, kale, carrots and beets. Along the way, they’re discovering that sometimes a small failure can be part of the process of growth. 🥬 The garden has become much more than a class project. It’s a lesson in patience, teamwork and the joy of watching something you planted come to life. A heartfelt thank-you to Republic Services for donating materials and tools to help make this garden dream a reality. 💚
