A URL browser typo shouldn’t compromise your security, but right now, it can. Trinity Cyber’s Threat Analysis team has uncovered a campaign hiding in plain sight on the Microsoft Store. The research details how attackers are using typo-squatted domains and abusing AdTech networks to deliver a previously undiscovered threat which our researchers have named “PhantomJack,” a browser hijacker capable of silently taking control of users’ searches and extensions. Even trusted platforms can be exploited. Whether you manage enterprise networks or are simply browsing the web, this is a must-read for understanding the new ways attackers are blurring the line between advertising and exploitation.
