The University of South Florida is one of six higher education institutions this year to be awarded $600,000 from the National Academics of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to launch a Gulf Scholars program. The Libraries are very excited to be a part of this program, thanks to librarian, Theresa Burress ! “This particular program is meant to pair students early on with faculty and community organizations that are actively conducting research related to the Gulf,” said Theresa Burress, university librarian for USF Libraries and co-director of the program. “From there, students can really immerse themselves in a research community earlier than they would normally, and on relevant topics of importance today.” The Gulf Scholars program is led by the Honors College and USF Libraries, which work with students from all majors. The program will be housed at USF St. Petersburg. https://lnkd.in/eGAKmzpp

We’re excited to share that #USF is now offering a new, free course focused on artificial intelligence!🤘 Designed for individuals with no technical background, the short-form program provides practical, flexible, and self-paced opportunities for professionals, educators and the general public to build confidence and skills in incorporating AI into their work and daily lives.
Some cool research on the development of this unique carbon sink from our USF Herbarium curator, Dr. Chris Kiahtipes 🦠 The flooded forests of the inner Congo Basin hold one of the world's largest freshwater swamps, which stores trillions of tons of Carbon. This research looks at how the interactions of climate, hydrology, geology, and vegetation led to the formation of this unique environment. Researchers found that the carbon-storing peatland environments evolved over the last 20,000 years along multiple pathways depending on the kinds of vegetation and the local hydrology. https://lnkd.in/dinz9myp

We are excited to announce that the Charles L. Knight Collection, a significant archive of Native American–focused print and ephemeral materials, has been donated to the USF Libraries. Over 500 books related to Florida Studies and both regional and national Native American history will be catalogued by USF Libraries. The donated materials complement the existing collection of artifacts previously donated by Knight to the Tampa Bay History Center, enhancing the 25-year partnership between our institutions and expanding opportunities for collaborative research and engagement. #UniversityOfSouthFlorida #USF #USFLibraries #USFHistory #WeveGotABookForThat #TampaHistory #History #AcademicLibrary #Archives
