USAP Colorado recently relaunched its New & Future Leaders Retreat, bringing together new Physician Partners, Partner Track Physicians, and Residents for an afternoon of leadership development and learning the ins and outs of USAP, all with a fun NFL-inspired theme. Attendees heard from several USAP leaders who covered topics such as clinical operations, billing fundamentals, financial literacy, culture-building, leadership, and strengthening health system partnerships. This retreat marks the first step in the renewed physician leadership development program for USAP Colorado, and we’re excited to continue investing in the next generation of leaders. #USAP #Anesthesia #HealthcareLeadership

It’s #DiabetesAwarenessMonth, and we have one final tip to share: let’s discuss insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor awareness. Closed-loop systems (automated insulin delivery) require careful monitoring and may need to be adjusted or disabled during surgery. In some cases, especially with pediatric patients, the pump may stay attached in the OR at a lower basal rate, along with the device that reads the glucose to monitor it. The surgical team will also take their own blood glucose (BG) levels with the hospital machines to compare and for medico legal purposes. #USAP #Diabetes #BloodGlucose #MedEd

USAP’s Bree Brown, Chief CRNA of North Texas and Chair of the National Care Advisory Committee (NCAC), was recently featured on the Core Anesthesia episode titled “Emotional Intelligence.” Bree opens the episode by sharing how she defines emotional intelligence, highlighting five key areas: self-awareness, self-control, social awareness, empathy, and motivation & purpose. This episode provides genuine insight into the very human side of being a trainee. Bree’s perspective helps candidates understand the emotional support and development they’ll receive at USAP. It’s authentic, relatable, and shows we truly understand what trainees experience. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gVZH5aBg #USAP #CoreAnesthesia #CRNA #Anesthesiology

It’s #DiabetesAwarenessMonth let’s talk about fasting and insulin use before surgery. Fasting before surgery is required and generally safe, even for patients with diabetes. Fasting and insulin can sometimes lower a patient’s blood sugar (but not in all cases), and your care team may adjust your insulin dose (for example, skipping or reducing it). The important point is to monitor the patient’s blood glucose (BG). #USAP #Diabetes #BloodGlucose #MedEd

It’s #DiabetesAwarenessMonth, and what better way to raise awareness than by sharing guidance on managing blood glucose before surgery. If a patient has diabetes, keeping their blood glucose (BG) close to their normal range before surgery is key for safety and recovery. Very high BG levels can increase surgical risks or even delay the patient’s procedure. Stay tuned for more helpful tips this week! #USAP #MedEd #BloodGlucose #Diabetes
