- The next kind of tendency we want to talk about is dedicated hosts. Now, when we're talking about dedicated hosts, it's very different than shared tendency. Remember, with shared tendency, you don't really get to pick the specific physical server that your instance actually runs on. But with a dedicated host, you do have that capability. So when we're talking about dedicated host, it's physical machines. These physical machines run the virtual machines. So we are saying that a host, a physical machine is dedicated to you. Now, many, many years ago, web hosting providers started giving you the option of having what they called dedicated servers. And basically they would put a server in their data center and say, that's yours and you can use it for hosting in whatever way you want to use that and then you would indeed do so.
