When we're learning about Auto Scaling, one of the common questions people have is, "Why?" Why would we want to do this in the first place? Well, let me give you a simple example to help you understand this. Every year, there's a certain time of year that comes around where nearly every website that sells products sells more. They have more visitors. They have more traffic. That time of year is Christmas. Along about that time of year, a lot more people are buying things at amazon.com, at newegg.com. At least that's where I hope people are buying things for me and other such websites. And so they're going out in droves more and heavier than they normally do. And guess what that means? It means those websites need the ability to handle much more traffic. But I don't need that all year long.
