- [Narrator] Information travels really fast through the internet as fast as light can travel through glass fibers in fact. But when milliseconds count, AWS has local zones, which are extensions of the AWS regions that put a set of servers even closer to a set of users. Local zones are labeled as the region name, such as US-East-1 followed by the physical location of the hardware such as DFWA1 to indicate that these physical servers are located within Dallas, Texas. For our purposes, it'll be fast enough to use US-East-1 without using a local zone, but sometimes there are those applications like in-video games or streaming live audio, where you need to shave off those extra milliseconds by getting even closer to your users.
