Sourcing (PNP) and sinking (NPN) circuits

- [Instructor] A sourcing and sinking circuits consists of the following, the sourcing part, the sinking part, and a power supply. In general, sourcing and sinking circuits have these three components. These diagrams also show how current flows through the circuits. Here we have a sourcing input module connected to a sinking NPN device then connected to the power supply. The positive side of the power supply is connected back to the sourcing module using the positive voltage DC pin. Now we have a sinking input module. The sensor is a sourcing PNP device. Notice, also, the positive terminal of the power supply is connected to the sourcing device and the negative terminal of the power supply is connected to the common pin of the module.
