The project managers does not have to be an expert in the legal niceties of contracts, but it is important that they not get into trouble, particularly not get into legal trouble. So we're going to talk about the key areas of contract administration. So the first thing to understand is the contracting officer. Big red letters here. The contracting officer is an expert in contracts, laws and regulation, and it's a good idea for the project manager to make really good friends with the contracting officer. The contracting officer will keep you out of trouble. The project manager rarely has contracting authority. So even if you wanted to, you probably couldn't sign a contract.
