- A matte is a different clip whose luminance or alpha affect the clip that the matte has been applied to. For masks, we work on just one layer, but for mattes we need two layers. Let's see how that works. Let's open the sequence named 3.1 Track Matte Effects. So we are now on chapter three, and there you go. And now let's look at this first set of clips. You have them here and you have them here as well. So the first set of clips is the finished effect. Let's go ahead and play this a little bit. And you see that the text here is just looking a little bit almost like a bass relief. Now let's do it here. Let's go ahead and select the middle clip and add a track matte key to this. So let's go to effects and type the word track and let's add the track matte key. In here, and I'm going to zoom in a little bit, select the clip and make sure that you go to the effect controls panel, and we are going to select where the matte is,…
