Define a set

When you analyze the data source and Tableau, you will often find values that go together. For example, you might have states that you want to consider as part of a single region. In this movie, I will show you how to define those regions by creating sets. My sample file is 07_05_Create Set and you can find it in the Chapter_07 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have a worksheet with a text table visualization breaking down sales by customer state. One way to organize data is by sets of states, specifically, if you're looking at the East Coast, the states of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia, which are commonly referred to as the Delmarva states. So Delaware, Del. Maryland, Ma, Virginia with its postal abbreviation VA. If I want to combine all those states into a single set, then I can click them individually and add them to the set when I'm done. So I will start by clicking Delaware. So that's selected.
