Define parameter actions
- [Instructor] Parameters let you create versatile filters in your workbooks. You can also use them to add useful features to a worksheet that's displayed in a dashboard. In this movie, I will show you how to add a reference line that moves in response to a parameter setting. My sample file is 12_07_Refline, and you can find it in the Chapter 12 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have three worksheets and I display a couple of them on the dashboard. Before I create my parameter action, though, that will be used on the dashboard and also on this worksheet, I want to note that the smallest value I have displayed is about 16,000, and then the lowest label is 14,000. This will affect the minimum value, and in fact, the starting value that I create for the reference line. So I'll remember 14,000. To create a parameter-based reference line, you need to create a parameter that is not associated with any field directly. That means you need to figure out how to do it.…
