- It's been about 10 years since Adobe switched Photoshop and its other creative applications over to a subscription model. After all that time, I'm honestly surprised when I still hear people say, "Oh, I don't use Lightroom because I don't want to pay Adobe for a subscription." People say that they would rather own their software outright. Of course, you never own a piece of software. You simply buy a license to use it.
