The $1.3B UCI Health – Irvine Hospital & Ambulatory Care Center will debut later this year as the first all-electric, zero-emission hospital in the U.S.—a bold step toward the UC system’s goal of full decarbonization by 2045. Designed by CO Architects and built by HENSEL PHELPS via a progressive design-build model, the project integrates cutting-edge sustainability and resiliency features, including: 🌿 A massive all-electric central utility plant 💡 Air-source heat pumps and energy-efficient design 🌎 LEED Platinum and Gold targets 🧱 Buckle-restrained braced frames for seismic resilience 🪶 Bird- and turtle-friendly ecological integration with the nearby San Joaquin Marsh “This landmark accomplishment showcases how innovation, collaboration and teamwork can redefine what’s possible in health care construction,” says Brian Maximuk of Hensel Phelps. 🔎Learn more about one-of-a-kind project in the latest issue of ENR West available here ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wX1X7 #ENRWest #Construction #HealthCare #allelectric #netzero #Sustainability #LEEDPlatinum #LEEDGold 📷 Courtesy Hensel Phelps
Awesome!
Are the back up generators also purely electric for all those pesky rolling black outs that So Cali is plagued with or are the generators fossil fuel which sort of contradicts the whole clean no emissions hospital. Just curious how they solved that problem.
Great job!!!
