"🔍 Transparency, traceability, and trust — this is how we build a low-carbon future."   What about reducing emissions? That works too. 💡 Is ExxonMobil’s Support for a Carbon Price a Genuine Business Strategy? Carbon pricing has long been seen as a cornerstone of effective climate policy — yet when fossil fuel companies champion it, skepticism often follows. In a new #SolutionSpaces article by the Global Solutions Initiative, part of the Redirecting Business Performance blog series with the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford’s Rethinking Performance Initiative, Robert Eccles explores ExxonMobil’s long-standing advocacy for a price on carbon — and argues that it may, in fact, be a strategic business move. Eccles examines how ExxonMobil’s $30 billion commitment to its Low Carbon Solutions division — focused on carbon capture and storage, low-carbon hydrogen, and advanced fuels — signals more than corporate rhetoric. The company’s leadership has indicated that this business could eventually rival, or even surpass, traditional oil and gas revenues. Still, the path forward depends on policy certainty. A stable and predictable carbon price — around $100 per ton — could unlock large-scale emissions reductions and accelerate investment in low-emission technologies. McKinsey Sees Fossil Fuels Dominating for Decades McKinsey’s Global Energy Perspective 2025 says oil, gas, and coal will still make up 41 to 55 percent of global energy use in 2050. This is higher than many expected. Energy costs and security now matter more than climate goals. A lack of investment in oil and gas could lead to a future supply crunch. There is no single path to decarbonization. Different regions will follow different approaches. Fossil fuels will stay a major part of the energy mix for decades. #oil #energy

Fools! The collapse in BESS prices in the past 6 months will drive an exponential growth in PV/BESS deployments to the point where the vast majority of electricity will be from renewable sources. This is due to the excellent investment profile of scalable modular projects with a reliable return (PV+BESS). No other infrastructure category is as bankable. There will be fuel use, but it will be relegated to a niche role such that biofuels and synthetic fuels will be more than capable of displacing fossil fuels at premium niche product prices.

We conducted interviews with Bart Wauterickx, 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘁 XP 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻, François Spitaels, 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 Fluxys, and Vinsents Makaris, 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 JSC Gaso to outline the clear, preset paths that these industry leaders are already leveraging at their unique segment of the value chain to support the industry in staying ahead of regulatory or stakeholder scrutiny. Each offered a unique perspective from a different segment of the value chain, emphasising that challenges and solutions cannot be “copy and pasted” between upstream, TSO, and DSO operations, and the only way to successfully tackle them is to collaborate and share insights from all aspects of oil and gas production, transmission and distribution.  We are presenting these valuable, expert insights in an easily digestible, interactive infographic that maps out the biggest challenges and most effective solutions to methane emissions at each segment of the value chain.
