Sam Houston State University has officially broken ground on its new Active Learning Center. This flexible, future-focused facility is designed by PGAL to support creative teaching, collaboration, and interdisciplinary learning. Alongside technology-rich classrooms and learning studios, the building includes intentionally designed in-between spaces where students can gather, study, and connect before and after class. These informal zones reflect SHSU’s understanding that learning happens across campus, not just inside the classroom. One preserved bay from the original Academic Building III grounds the new facility in the university’s history. It is a quiet but meaningful detail that honors the past while making room for the future.
