A robust #solar AGL system doesn’t simply rely on battery size; it instead manages charging, discharging, and light output intelligently to maintain brightness and autonomy year after year. When solar #AGL batteries start to deplete, some older systems automatically reduce brightness, which can lead to uneven illumination and less safe airfield operations. Modern systems prevent this by using smart control algorithms that maintain stable light output regardless of battery charge. Through adaptive brightness management, intensity adjustments are made intelligently—such as dimming during low-traffic hours—without allowing the light to flicker or fall below compliant photometric levels, ensuring both safety and operational reliability. Rather than specifying a fixed lifespan, SALA recommends focusing on system-level performance metrics: autonomy under worst-case conditions, consistent photometric output, and documented usage intervals. Anti-backflow principle: By detecting power in real time at the grid connection point (CT/electricity meter), the inverter adjusts the active power output in a closed loop or switches to charging to ensure that the active power at the grid connection point is ≤0, thus preventing electricity from being fed back into the grid (anti-backflow).
