Shane Jacobson’s Post

What a transformative two days of conversations with some of the best minds in health, made possible by the Milken Institute.       At the Milken Institute Women’s Health Network Inaugural Meeting and Luncheon, led by the network’s Chair, Dr. Jill Biden, guests came together to share knowledge and inspire action.  I had the opportunity to participate in a panel moderated by Dr. Biden and with fellow Women's Health Network Steering Committee members, Janet Foutty and Sabrina Johnson, about breaking silos in women’s health. Cross-sector collaboration was a key theme, and I appreciate the chance to talk about the American Cancer Society's research, programs, and partnerships that are improving women’s health. Leaders from across the health ecosystem then convened for the Future of Health Summit. Thanks to Bertha Coombs, Sarah M. London, Dr. Baligh Yehia, MD, MPP, MSc, and Jeremy David for a great discussion where we addressed the question: What does it mean to build a health system to serve the population of tomorrow?     With a focus on health equity, innovation, and partnership and value-based models, we covered topics from what it would look like to build a health care system from scratch to the role of AI.     An overall takeaway? No single organization, provider, or system has all the answers – but together, we are uniquely positioned to both serve patients today and make breakthroughs to create a healthier future for generations to come.

Dr. Jacobson, you are exactly right. Those of us who’ve been in healthcare for decades have always known that no single organization—or sector—can solve these challenges alone. It’s only when we come together, break down the silos, and share our expertise that true breakthroughs become possible.  The conversations at the Milken Institute Women’s Health Network convening were a powerful reminder of what collaboration can unlock. I was honored to be there representing HealthyWomen, and I’m energized by the momentum we’re building across research, policy, innovation, and patient advocacy.  Here’s to continuing this work—together.

Such an inspiring recap, Shane! The discussions around collaboration, equity, and innovation truly highlight what’s possible when leaders across sectors unite for women’s health. Love the emphasis on breaking silos and building a healthcare system designed for the future — together we can make lasting impact.

Your comment about out-collaborating the challenge was so important and TRUE. If we could close the gender health gap by ourselves we would have done it by now. We need everyone in this fight to #MakeWomensHealthMainstream. Thank you for joining this effort!
