Tom Welch, MBA’s Post

It’s hard to capture the full measure of who Sister Jean was. At 106, she left behind more than a remarkable legacy, she left behind a light that will forever live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Sister Jean was the heartbeat of Loyola and the embodiment of community. Before every home game, she gathered the team to bless our hands, a simple gesture that carried deep meaning. It wasn’t just about basketball; it was about unity, faith, and gratitude for the opportunity to play for something bigger than ourselves. She’d even deliver her own scouting report for each opponent, often with a smile, a laugh, and insights that reminded us she was as sharp as anyone on the bench. What made Sister Jean truly special was the joy she carried into every room. She was a constant source of positivity, always smiling, always finding something to be grateful for, even on the hardest days. Her energy was contagious. She could take any moment and uncover the good in it, teaching all of us to do the same. Being around her reminded you that joy is a choice, gratitude is power, and faith isn’t about perfection, it’s about perspective. Sister Jean had an unmatched ability to bring people together. She united students, athletes, alumni, and fans in a shared sense of purpose and pride. Through her compassion, humility, and humor, she built a community grounded in kindness and love, one that continues to thrive because of her. Rest peacefully, Sister Jean. Thank you for your faith, your humor, and your light. You showed us how to lead with love, lift others up, and live with gratitude. Your spirit will forever be a part of Loyola, and of all of us who were lucky enough to feel your warmth.

Well said, Tom! We were all blessed to have known her and had her play such a big role in our lives.

Grateful that you were able to encapsulate all that was remarkable about Sr. Jean Tom. Better still you knew firsthand what she meant to the Ramblers, LU and anyone touched by her.
