GiG Early Talent Programme 2025

This summer, we opened our doors to welcome a group of bright young professionals eager to make their mark. A diverse group of ambitious young interns joined teams across different locations, bringing with them unique perspectives, curiosity, and the drive to create an impact.

For many, this is the first step in their professional journey. For GiG, it’s an opportunity to harness fresh perspectives while investing in the industry’s future. By opening pathways for young professionals, we are equipping tomorrow’s teams with the tools, mentorship, and experience they need to thrive, while helping to secure the future of the wider iGaming industry.

Our interns are engaging in real projects and facing real challenges, not just shadowing—each intern is encouraged to contribute meaningfully, supported by mentorship, while gaining practical experience in a dynamic, fast-paced industry.

Data Science Team

“Working on real projects and collaborating with the team has boosted my confidence.” - Darian Baker

The GiG Early Talent Programme marks the first job experience for Darian Baker, Technical Integrations Intern. “I’ve been given real tasks and hands-on learning, which matched and exceeded my expectations. The tools I’ve learned here were tough at first, but very valuable once mastered”, he states. At GiG, “the culture is open, welcoming, and collaborative”, where “mentorship has been the most helpful”. “Living and working in Malta has been great with a good balance of work and lifestyle - the hybrid working model helps balance focus and collaboration”, Darian guarantees.

“The flexibility at GiG has been refreshing.” - Jan Borg

For Jan Borg, Data Science Apprentice, this internship represents “one of the most valuable work experiences so far. Before joining, I looked up the peers, mentor, and the team leader I’d be working with, and I was really impressed by their expertise”. Jan shares that he was excited to learn from our GiGsters, “and they haven’t disappointed: Valerija Holomjova and Christopher Zerafa, Ph.D. , who I’d honestly call experts in AI and programming, have been giving me lots of guidance, tips, and knowledge that are really helping me in my tasks”.

“One thing that really surprised me was the work environment”, he adds. Coming from a more traditional background, “where being a minute late could get you a warning and working from home wasn’t an option, the flexibility at GiG has been refreshing. Being able to work from home, having meals provided, and enjoying lunch with the team at the office - with an amazing view - has been a big plus.”

“The company’s positive and supportive culture has greatly contributed to my professional development” - Jeannette P.

Jan also emphasises the team culture as one of the standout aspects of his experience: “The culture at GiG is another highlight. The team often organises events after work, and people across different departments are friendly and down-to-earth. This sense of community makes the whole experience even more enjoyable”.

The culture thrives on knowledge-sharing across teams and functions, creating an environment where learning flows in both directions: seasoned experts mentor young talent, while fresh perspectives spark new ways of thinking. It’s the balance of support and autonomy that enables our interns to grow while feeling genuinely part of our team. “The company’s positive and supportive culture has greatly contributed to my professional development. I also have a mentor who provided valuable guidance on various tasks”, says our Data Deveops Engineer Intern.

For Jeannette, the hybrid working model “has also been effective, allowing for efficient remote collaboration, though I do see the unique value of in-person communication in certain instances”. Jeannette believes that her background in software engineering provided her with a strong foundation, which eased the transition into the Data DevOps field. To further her development, she is “currently taking a recommended course on Kubernetes - a technology that was new to me”, she explains.

“The company culture is genuinely positive, the office is a great place to work from, and the benefits provided make you feel seen and appreciated.” - Cristina Farrugia

Before joining GiG, Cristina Farrugia “didn’t have any specific expectations”, but when she first started as a Big Data Graduate, she was “pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and supportive the environment is. The company culture is genuinely positive, the office is a great place to work from, and the benefits provided make you feel seen and appreciated”.

Cristina Farrugia - Big Data Graduate

Cristina highlights the team spirit: “The most helpful thing has been how supportive and present the team is. From day one, they’ve reassured me that it’s okay to feel a bit lost at the beginning. They’ve encouraged me to take my time, learn the ropes, and reminded me that it's normal to go through the adjustment period. That support has made a big difference in building my confidence and easing the transition. One of the most positive surprises was how smooth and pressure-free the onboarding process was. Instead of rushing through everything, the team actually encouraged us to take our time — get familiar with the tools, meet people, and enjoy the process of settling in. That approach helped me appreciate the present moment while also building excitement for the responsibilities ahead”, she clarifies.

“Team Thor is full of good people who know what they’re doing, and working alongside them is teaching me a lot.” - Sascha Miljanic

With a background in IT, this internship marks one of the first job opportunities in the field for Sascha Miljanic, Associate Back End Engineer. Joining GiG in June, he has learned “to be more thorough with work”, and is “surprised by the benefits - I was not expecting snacks and drinks to be stocked in the kitchen”. “Team Thor is full of good people who know what they’re doing, and working alongside them is teaching me a lot. I'm finding a lot of success in my work by applying the feedback I'm getting from them, especially from my team Lead, Keith Cassar . Outside of the team, the company culture is very comfortable and welcoming”.
