Mishandled Repair Case & Subsequent Security Incident My most recent experience with a Lenovo repair case left me both financially disadvantaged and dealing with an unexpected security compromise. I paid $150 for diagnostic service and $100 for shipping to send the system in. I was then quoted $650 for repairs—bringing the total near $1,000—despite the laptop still functioning while plugged in. When I asked for clarification about the diagnosis, warranty applicability, or cost breakdown, I was informed only that the issue fell “outside of warranty” and that I had five days to approve the quote. After the device was returned to me unrepaired, it exhibited signs of infection and was later identified as containing a keystroke-tracking trojan. This resulted in: A police report, bank fraud report, closed bank accounts, credit bureau reports, CAFC and CRA reports Engagement of my cyber insurance provider warranting a full investigation and remediation by Arete Cybersecurity, including incident response, forensic review, security validation, monitoring, and containment. The insurer confirmed covered costs under both Cyber Attack and Forensic IT categories.
Love this! 👏 These real-world examples show how Lenovo’s technology, coupled with smarter AI, is truly driving meaningful impact. It’s inspiring to see innovation translate into concrete outcomes!
