A job seeker came to me after 3.5 months of job searching with the following data: 180 applications submitted 12 screenings 1 referral 5 interviews 1 final round 0 offers After reviewing the data, I found that their job search was actually performing well in some areas but had key bottlenecks: - Strong application-to-screening rate Their resume and portfolio were doing well, getting them past the initial stage. - Good screening-to-interview rate Their performance in behavioral and situational questions was above average. - Weak interview-to-final round conversion This indicated a struggle with: Technical rounds – Not demonstrating enough depth in core skills. Alignment with job descriptions – Answers weren’t tailored to the company’s needs. Surface-level responses – Not showcasing impact or real-world application of skills. The plan to improve: If I were coaching them, I’d focus on three key strategies: 𝟭) 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 Develop an interview strategy to explain technical and soft skills in-depth. Relate answers directly to the job description and company goals for higher impact. Use structured responses like the STAR method, but emphasize impact and problem-solving. 𝟮) 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 Daily practice of technical questions tailored to their target roles. Mock interviews to simulate real-world scenarios. Feedback loops to refine and improve responses. 𝟯) 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 Increase outreach to professionals in their industry. 7 Easy Ways To 10x Your Job Search Productivity: 1. Determine How Much Time You Can Allocate Every Day Consistency is one of the largest factors in job search success. Spending 6 hours every Saturday isn’t going to get you nearly as far as spending 1 hour job searching 6 days / week. As a starting point, review your schedule and determine an amount of time you can commit to 5 days per week. Taking the weekends off to recharge is important :) 2. Use The 5:50:5 Job Search Framework Having a structured plan is key to job search efficiency. I recommend using the 5:50:5 Method: 5 Job Search Tasks 50 Minutes 5 Days Per Week Feel free to adapt to fit your allocated time (e.g. 3:30:3, 2:20:2, etc). 3. Intentionally Schedule The Time “I’ll find time” isn’t a strategy. Your job search should be in your calendar, and those blocks should be non-negotiable. Take 15 minutes to: - Review every day in your calendar - Identify blocks of time where you can job search uninterrupted - Create invites / block that time 4. Batch Similar Tasks Together “Context Switching” is when you jump between two unrelated tasks. A study from the University of California found that it can take ~23 minutes to get back into a state of focus after context switching. Review the job search tasks from your 5:50:5 method. Group similar tasks together in the time blocks you created to maximize focus and effectiveness. 5. Use Ai For Tedious / Repeatable Tasks AI is not a replacement for you. But you can use it to automate repeatable tasks or brainstorm ideas. For example: - Weave keywords into your resume - Write initial cover letter drafts - Brainstorm ways to add value when networking - Get feedback on interview answers 6. Use The “Smallest Viable Action” Strategy Sometimes it feels impossible to get up the energy to job search. If you feel that way, think of the absolute smallest action you could take: Update one bullet in your resume Open a networking email draft and write Hi [Name], Browse new jobs on LinkedIn for 30 seconds You’ll find that once you take the small action, it’ll be easier to keep going. 7. Say “No” To Energy Drainers As a job seeker, we can feel pressure to say “yes” to every opportunity. Learning to say “no” to things that don’t bring you energy or align with your strengths can help you save that energy for higher ROI tasks. Ex: Hate in person networking events? Say no. Reallocate that time to virtual networking instead. All of these will help you be more productive. But even if you only choose and implement one or two? You'll see a big impact on your job search.

Applying 5 to 6 jobs a day is better than applying to 50! We talk to hundreds of job seekers everyday and their main issue is mostly them same- “Why am I not hearing back, I have been applying 30 to 50 jobs a day.” GUYS, IT’S NOT A NUMBERS GAME. The more applications you send doesn’t mean higher chances. The ATS is designed to filter out unfocused resumes. If you’re mass-applying without tailoring, you’re basically feeding your resume into a black hole. Instead, here’s what works ⬇️ ✅ Target roles you’re actually a fit for: Read the JD properly. If you don’t have at least 70% of the requirements, your resume won’t pass the first filter. ✅ Customize your resume to each role. Use job-specific keywords. For example, if the JD mentions “Kubernetes,” make sure it’s in your skills/experience section (if you’ve worked on it). ✅ Focus on quality, not quantity. Applying to 6 well-targeted jobs with a tailored resume and cover note is far more effective than blasting 50 generic applications. ✅ Highlight measurable impact.
