“Leaders are the source of team culture and can, in an attempt to manage uncertainty, in fact create cultures that lead to fracture, disengagement or more anxiety.” How does a leader create this safety, according to the article? ✅ Trust in and utilise the vision. “Ignite team members in this, creating security in a future no matter the challenges of the present.” ✅ Invite fast failure and learning. “Permit and invite team members to create their own ideas and solutions to change and challenge.“ ✅ Celebrate small wins. “Not with a “good work” comment, but with real pause and naming of skill, delivery and team outcomes.” ✅ Don’t share your anxiety too often and certainly don’t communicate any sense of defeat “Recognise that safety needs confidence in you to hold them, when they are shaken. Seek support for yourself, if this feels tough.” ✅ Learn what to let go. “Perfectionism, constant wins, rapid change – they are all values that cripple safety.“ ✅ Share the ‘safe-uncertainty’ culture challenge at board level and recognise it as a board task. “It is imperative to create this culture across all leadership, and not see it as fluffy stuff that doesn’t need time.“ ✅ Team spaces. “A teaming space is where problems are raised, and the ‘team’ look to solve them together.” ✅ Audit your style. “Honestly ask yourself (if you are leading poorly) … Promote good conversations” Quoting from: https://lnkd.in/evDRnzTD My additional comments and suggestions: 👍🏼 Board-level vision statements aren’t always inspiring to front-line teams, so relying on these to anchor a sense of meaning & purpose can backfire. Better to engage in #bottomup purpose building to shape and hone the “team vision” through people & stories, not lofty or removed concepts. 👍🏼 Do share your #humanity as a leader often, not to diffuse anxiety or overwhelm into the team space, but as a way of being clear and transparent and build trust. People can sense “bullshit” and will read into false positivity as potentially manipulative (or at least indicator of a false veneer of positivity that is not rooted in reality). 👍🏼 Explore and adapt your leadership style through #embodiment and awareness building … because “mindset” cannot deliver a leader the ability to make adjustment in real-time with real people under real uncertainty. 👍🏼 Use #action and #behavior to show who you are as a leader. It’s not enough to just have organizational values; leaders need to live them. When actions align with stated values, it fosters a genuine and cohesive team culture. #SafeUncertainty #Leadership #TeamCulture #PsychologicalSafety #ChangeManagement #VisionaryLeadership #FastFailure #CelebrateWins #LeadershipAnxiety #LeadershipStyle #TeamSpaces #BottomUpLeadership #Transparency #EmbodyLeadership #RealTimeAdjustments

When you think about the leaders you have worked with that you admire, what is the first thing that comes to mind about them? For me, it’s the impact they have made on others. I don’t think about all the different tasks and projects they managed, I think about the people they developed. They grew their results by growing their people. So how can we tap into the leader within and inspire others? Here are 5 strategies: 1️⃣ Lead with Purpose: think about what you want to be known for. As a leader, you will either be remembered for the problems you solved or the problems you created. Focus on the vision have for your team, the decisions that support that, and the benchmarks you will be accountable to along the way. 2️⃣ Develop Your Emotional Intelligence: consider how you make people feel when they are communicating with you. Are you so focused on benchmarks, upcoming deadlines, and unfinished projects that you may be neglecting opportunities to strengthen the relationship? As our EQ increases, we connect with people on a deeper level, display empathy, and are able to earn their trust. 3️⃣ Encourage Growth and Development: reflect on the resources you have access to that can help them sharpen their skills, be more productive, and feel more fulfilled at work. Think about books you have recently read, podcasts you enjoy, courses you have taken, or assessments that helped you see yourself differently. By sharing these, you cna help facilitate their growth. 4️⃣ Lead by Example: set the tone for your team by embodying the qualities you wish to see in them. In leadership, your example is the single most important ingredient for inspiring the people who follow you. Both your actions and words carry tremendous weight, so be mindful that people are always watching how you respond to situations, especially the most difficult ones. 5️⃣ Make it Safe to Fail: what do your team members expect from you when they fail? If they fear your reaction or the negative consequences they will face for making mistakes, then you haven’t created the psychological safety for them to feel comfortable failing. When you approach failure as success in progress and communicate that to your team, it gives them the space and freedom to innovate, experiment, and take risks. #Leadership #MentorshipMoments #TedTalk

If you are relying on me to motivate you, I probably don’t want you on my team. *Read that again please… When you lead a team, you cannot possibly be the sole source of motivation. In fact, Daniel Pink’s book “Drive”, unearths some interesting research on intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation for teams. I often speak about the idea of shared leadership. As organizations become flatter and work becomes more knowledge based instead of task-centric, leadership cannot solely be about position. Motivation cannot solely be about the carrot and stick. I’m excited to share some powerful insights inspired by this recent read…ok I listened to it on a recent drive six-hour drive back home. In the pursuit of unlocking your team's full potential, consider the following strategies: 1️⃣ Autonomy: Provide your team members with the freedom to explore and execute their ideas, allowing them to take ownership of their work and approach tasks in their unique way. 2️⃣ Mastery: Foster a culture of continuous learning and development by offering opportunities for skill enhancement and growth. Encourage your team to set personal development goals and support them in achieving these milestones. 3️⃣ Purpose: Connect your team's work to a higher purpose, emphasizing the meaningful impact of their contributions. Help them understand how their efforts align with the larger goals and vision of the organization. By incorporating these principles of autonomy, mastery, and purpose into your leadership approach and team dynamics, you can cultivate an environment where intrinsic motivation thrives, leading to increased engagement, creativity, and overall team satisfaction 🌟💡 #intrinsicmotivation #teamdevelopment #leadershipdevelopment #leadersarereaders #LeadershipDecoded Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences on this transformative journey! 💬💭

Today's Dr. J Thoughts offer valuable insights for leaders navigating uncharted waters in times of constant change and disagreement. Drawing inspiration from Stephen Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," a fellow sojourner shares refined strategies for transformative leadership. The first strategy is to begin with the end in mind. Understanding the "why" behind proposed changes fosters better implementation. For example, when Apple removed the headphone jack from their iPhone 7, many were skeptical. However, understanding Apple's goal for a wireless future helped align many with the decision. The second strategy is to prioritize the organization's interest. Shift your perspective from personal or team-centric to an organizational-centric view. This will earn you respect from influential stakeholders. Thirdly, distinguish between agreement and support. Open communication about your reservations with a change is encouraged. However, hindering the change is detrimental. Remember, disagreement doesn't equate to lack of support, and roadblocks can jeopardize your leadership role. Lastly, embrace a positive vision. Letting go of negative preconceptions and actively focusing on a positive outcome allows for more productive energy use. Hold onto your past achievements as reminders of your capability to implement changes. In conclusion, being a game changer amidst turbulence and disagreements necessitates a profound understanding of one's values, the ability to prioritize, and the courage to act even in adversity. Drawing from Covey's principles offers a tested roadmap for any leader aspiring to make impactful changes. #leadership #transformativeleadership #gamechanger #prioritization #positivevision
