With misinformation now ranked among the world’s top global risks by the World Economic Forum, the need for open-source, community-led solutions has never been clearer. Across emerging economies, frontier tech start-ups are developing powerful tools to counter digitally driven misinformation and strengthen information ecosystems. From 900+ applicants in 87 countries, the UNICEF Venture Fund has selected 7 ventures advancing ethical data systems, safeguarding privacy, and shaping trustworthy digital spaces. 📱 “The emphasis on data trust and privacy — especially at the intersection of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender equality — resonates with Finland’s goals both at home and internationally,” says Pasi Hellman, Under-Secretary of State for International Development with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Being at the frontier of AI presents tremendous opportunities to improve people’s lives. 🤝 Through our 10-year partnership with UNICEF Innovation, we’re putting this belief into action, co-developing AI solutions that protect children’s health, enhance education, and support local innovation leadership in communities across the world. From air quality monitoring in Laos to literacy tools in Colombia and flood prediction in Malawi, we’re proving that when technology and global development agencies work together, progress follows. From inspiration to impact: advancing learning innovation beyond UN Day 💙 Last month, on United Nations Day, Suzanne Innes-Stubb, First Lady of Finland, visited the UNICEF Global Learning Innovation Hub in Helsinki — meeting educators, policymakers, and innovators from Côte d’Ivoire, Jordan, Lao PDR, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Ukraine. 🌍 Her reflections on Finland’s education values — trust, equity, and wellbeing — continue to resonate as we carry forward the spirit of UN Day: building a future where innovation and inclusion power every child’s right to learn. The visit took place during UNICEF’s Learning Pioneers Programme Innovation Camp, where countries are reimagining how digital tools and collaboration can transform learning systems worldwide. 🤝🏾 Learn more about the Camp’s insights and next steps 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/dRK5Wphp This work is made possible through UNICEF’s partnership with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. #LearningInnovation #EducationForAll #UN80 UNICEF Côte d'Ivoire, UNICEF Jordan - يونيسف الأردن, UNICEF Pakistan, UNICEF Tanzania, UNICEF Ukraine

Across the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions, innovators aren’t just waiting for the future — they’re building it. UNICEF reveals 5 frontier tech start-ups from the Climate Innovation Challenge 2025. Selected from over 1,200 ventures, they are solving challenges at the intersection of climate and health. 🔵 Climatrix AI from Nigeria- Delivers hyperlocal predictions of environmental hazards using AI, satellite imagery and internet of things sensors. 🔵 NAXA from Nepal- Blends community insights with climate and hazard data to generate risk profiles and multilingual preparedness messages. 🔵 RIFFAI from Thailand – Predicts environmental changes and their severity by integrating various data points into an AI system. 🔵 Respirer Living Sciences from India- Uses AI to process environmental and air-quality data from school-zones and offers cities actionable next steps. 🔵 Tryolabs from Uruguay- Leverages AI to transform fragmented datasets into clear insights for children and the systems that support them. These teams are transforming raw data into action: predicting floods, improving air quality around schools, modelling environmental shifts, and helping cities plan smarter for the next generation. Backed by the UNICEF Venture Fund, they’ll receive tailored support to accelerate their impact. Today, the bell rings for children and their rights! On this World Children’s Day, we celebrate a milestone: UNICEF and the UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges (UN SSE) initiative are joining forces with global stock exchanges to bring children’s rights into capital markets. This morning, the first-ever Ring the Bell for Children event took place at Nasdaq Helsinki, marking a shared commitment to put children at the heart of sustainability strategies. Beyond opening the trading day, the bell was a call to action for investors, companies, and exchanges to embrace Child-Lens Investing, an approach developed by UNICEF to link the power of finance with the rights and well-being of every child. Before ringing the bell alongside youth advocate and Bourse Ambassador Aada Ahola, Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio reminded us of the business case: “Companies that integrate a child lens into their strategies prioritize children's rights, safety, and well-being. This helps businesses unlock long-term value creation and gain a competitive edge in increasingly purpose-driven markets.” And Aada shared why this matters: “Through responsible investing, capital can be directed toward companies that respect human rights and actively support the well-being of children and youth. In doing so, we can build a fairer, safer, and more sustainable future for all.” For me, this moment was powerful. Seeing leaders and youth stand side by side to open the markets for children’s rights shows what collaboration can achieve. It’s not just about ringing a bell - it’s about amplifying voices that often go unheard and embedding them into the systems that shape our world. There will be guidance to follow – stay tuned. On this World Toilet Day, find out what happens to 💩 in freezing temperatures. Pipes and filters can freeze, facilities break down, and thawing can lead to pollution. In collaboration with UNICEF Mongolia, we installed innovative toilet systems in school and health facilities to help treat wastewater in sub-zero conditions. For staff, children and families, this means uninterrupted services, year-round indoor toilets, and more protection from the spread of disease. Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dQebvHSY #WorldToiletDay
