  • Join us at 3pm tomorrow for a free webinar: AI for Charities: Harnessing AI Tools for Good! We're teaming up with the brilliant Lola to show you practical ways AI can transform your charity work right now, rather than waiting till the robots have fully taken over. In this 60-minute session, we'll cover: ✅ Crafting effective prompts for ChatGPT and Claude ✅ Using AI for everyday tasks without technical expertise ✅ Solving problems when AI gets stuck in loops ✅ Setting appropriate boundaries with sensitive information Whether you're a fundraiser drowning in donor comms, a manager juggling limited resources, or just plain curious about how AI could help your cause, you'll get something from this. Register via the link in comments. Can't make it? Sign up anyway and we'll send you the recording.

  • We're proud to partner on the 2025 Charity Digital Skills Report survey in 2025! We're working with Zoe Amar FCIM, Nissa R., Catalyst Network, Microsoft, Torchbox and Lightful for this year's report. How's your charity navigating digital and the lovely world of AI? Crucially, what support do you need? Share your insights to help map key sector trends and create a valuable resource for the sector! https://lnkd.in/gfBBuNsK

  • Carol O'Brien, CEO of Sight Concern Bedfordshire, was devastated. Her elderly service users with sight loss were spending money on taxis to visit their old office address, only to be left stranded with no way back. All because of a Google Maps listing she couldn't update. "I'd really caused their week to be ruined," she explained. "That's not what should happen when someone is coming to us for help." Running a small charity with 13 part-time staff meant Carol had no dedicated tech person to turn to. Digital Candle connected her with Stephen Hawkes, a volunteer expert who quickly spotted the issue - Carol was using the wrong admin account. A common problem when charities rely on volunteer-built digital presences. The impact was immediate. No more distressed phone calls from lost service users. No more expensive taxi journeys to the wrong location. "It felt like a weight off my shoulders," Carol shared. "People were going to get the service that they needed." This highlights the awkward gap between IT support (mostly hardware) and marketing support (which often excludes things like Google Maps listings) that small charities struggle with. Sometimes the smallest digital fixes make the biggest real-world difference.

  • I'm excited to share our new volunteer manifesto with you. Our ace community many helped create this through our recent online get-together, survey responses and feedback. We've combined our volunteer experts' valuable insights with Catalyst Network's principles on liberatory technology to create a document that reflects what Digital Candle volunteering is all about. The manifesto covers knowledge sharing, community empowerment, ethical practice, respectful partnership, and collective impact. We've tried to capture both the practical aspects of volunteering and our broader mission of democratising digital expertise across the non for profit sector.
