For patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) who cannot take long-term blood thinners, the WATCHMAN procedure offers a minimally invasive way to help reduce the risk of stroke. Today we celebrate more than 550 patients at Holy Cross Health who have benefited from this treatment.    Performed in our state-of-the-art electrophysiology lab, most patients enjoy a short overnight stay before returning home the next day. Cardinal Gibbons High School FL students joined us for the Healing Hands: Nurse Shadow Experience, beginning their day in the chapel with guidance from our Mission Leader and our Chief Nursing Officer, who helped them focus on purpose before stepping into the clinical world. Throughout the day, students spent time with nurses from IRU, PACU, the OR, Cath Lab, Endoscopy and 4 West, getting a firsthand look at the skills and teamwork behind quality care. They also visited, NICU, Lab, Pharmacy, CIU, and Physical Therapy, where teams set up interactive stations, microscopes, medication education, sterile trays, therapy activities and a safe cardiac monitoring demonstration. The Dorothy Mangurian Women's Center welcomed more than 100 attendees for the 3rd Annual Food is Medicine Symposium, focused on advancing health through nutrition. Sponsored by Holy Cross Community Health & Well-Being, the South Florida Hunger Coalition, and the Florida Health & Nutrition Coalition, the event featured Oakland Park Mayor, Tim Lonergan, Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian of Tufts University, Holly Freishtat of the Milken Institute, and more than 30 experts in food policy and nutrition. A highlight was the Culinary Medicine Masterclass, opened by City Commissioner Gordon and led by Olivia Thomas, RD, where participants prepared healthy, culturally relevant meals that support chronic disease prevention. Together, we can create healthier habits and stronger communities!
