For the past six months, I've been working alongside my colleagues at Nava and our clients at California Office of Data and Innovation on an innovative new platform that changes how citizens interact with state and local government. Engaged California asked survivors of this year's wildfires what they needed to rebuild, and their responses will shape what happens next. I'm proud to have played a role in promoting this work, and very grateful for the hard work of our small but mighty comms team (Barbara Cosio Moreno, Robin Cortez, Tim Moore, Karen Turner).
🎤 You spoke. We listened. For six months, Angelenos affected by the Palisades and Eaton fires shared what mattered most as they rebuild their communities. Participants came together through Engaged California, a first-in-the-nation deliberative democracy platform. They helped create an action plan to rebuild. Fire survivors told us their top priorities: ➡️ Utilities: burying power lines to prevent ignitions ➡️Water: upgrading water systems to improve capacity and hydrant availability ➡️Communications: strengthening communication systems to ensure reliable connections even when networks fail ➡️Financial support: making financial support easier to navigate so people can quickly find the help they need ➡️Permitting: streamlining permitting to provide fast, hands-on guidance These priorities will help guide state and local governments as they set recovery efforts in motion. 💙 Thank you so much for sharing your voice. Your participation made this possible. 🔗 To learn more about the top priorities survivors shared, visit https://bit.ly/4idDUGZ Audrey Tang Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Berggruen Institute
