Sam Houston State University has officially broken ground on its new Active Learning Center. This flexible, future-focused facility is designed by PGAL to support creative teaching, collaboration, and interdisciplinary learning. Alongside technology-rich classrooms and learning studios, the building includes intentionally designed in-between spaces where students can gather, study, and connect before and after class. These informal zones reflect SHSU’s understanding that learning happens across campus, not just inside the classroom. One preserved bay from the original Academic Building III grounds the new facility in the university’s history. It is a quiet but meaningful detail that honors the past while making room for the future. It was an exciting day for our aviation experts as PGAL was honored with the Designer of the Year award by Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) at the 2025 Business Opportunities Forum. The recognition highlights our team’s dedication to design excellence, collaboration, and a partnership with DFW that continues to shape the future of air travel, noting: “The dedication and skill of these professionals underscore the excellence that DFW strives for in all its endeavors.” This award comes as PGAL advances two major programs at DFW: the new Terminal F, a roughly 400,000-square-foot concourse adding 15 new gates in its first phase and pioneering modular construction techniques, and the consolidated Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facilities, which will merge four existing stations into two modern, 96,000-square-foot hubs supporting safety and operational efficiency across the airfield. These efforts exemplify how our integrated design approach and long-standing partnership with DFW are helping deliver transformative improvements for one of the world’s busiest and most innovative airports. Originally built in the early 1990s, the Administration Building at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, TX, has long supported the arts community. PGAL’s latest design reimagines the 7,700-square-foot facility to better support Pavilion staff with flexible, tech-integrated offices, conference rooms, and refreshed support spaces that reflect the venue’s dynamic identity. This major milestone celebrates the teamwork behind a highly specialized facility that will serve as a critical life-safety hub for the airport and surrounding community. Designed to optimize response time, resilience, and operational efficiency, the new ARFF station is a powerful reflection of PGAL’s commitment to mission-driven public infrastructure. As part of Harris County Precinct 2’s Revive2Thrive program, our team designed this transformative project between IH-45 and Airline Drive in Houston, enhancing safety, mobility, and flood resilience for the surrounding community. The improvements include a reconstructed four-lane boulevard with eight-foot sidewalks, new traffic signals and crosswalks, and an upgraded storm sewer system that supports long-term flood protection. PGAL joined Commissioner Adrian Garcia, County Engineer Milton Rahman, and Flood Control Director Tina Peterson for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating a safer and more connected northside community.
