This year’s #COP30 was all about implementation. Some highlights from the week: 🏙️ C40 Cool Cities Accelerator launch at the C40 World Mayors Summit—uniting 33 cities to achieve zero preventable deaths from extreme heat by 2030. ⚡A new report published that highlights how we can advance the global energy transition in Asia and beyond through transition credits. 🥗 Our new $5.4M commitment to expand Regenerative School Meals in Brazil and globally. 💚 The launch of the Belém Health Action Plan, a landmark framework placing people’s health at the center of climate action. #COP30 reminded us that we can deliver results for people when we bring in new sources of financing and create unlikely partnerships.

We could feed 7.86 million more children every year by shifting to regenerative school meals. At no additional cost. At #COP30, we released a new report with Stanford University that reveals the hidden costs of climate-driven disruptions to our food systems—and how regenerative school meals could be the key ingredient to creating a more resilient world. By shifting school meal programs toward regeneratively grown staples that are culturally relevant (millet, sorghum, yams) that restore soil health and support the climate, we can improve childhood nutrition, support local economies, and address climate challenges. We know this works. Now it’s time to scale it everywhere. https://lnkd.in/eZPXDh8F

Ahead of the 2025 G20 Summit, we’re unveiling the results from a new poll of 19,000+ people across 18 G20 countries. The findings are clear: People want their nations to collaborate. And people are ready to move toward a more responsive and fair approach to global cooperation. That means nations need to: 🔹 Prioritize people’s top concerns, like preventing wars and conflicts and ensuring clean water and food for everyone. 🔹 Take coordinated, multilateral action. 🔹 Work with trusted international organizations that can help tackle global challenges. 📢 We are proud to announce that along with Cassava Technologies we are expanding AI access across Africa. Why is this important? Africa is home to nearly one-in-five people worldwide, but the continent currently has less than 1% of global data center capacity. Through this partnership, we're providing AI compute capacity—powered by NVIDIA AI—to our grantees working in agriculture, healthcare, and education across eight African countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe. With this investment, Africans won't just consume #AI — they'll build it. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eYn6wPmd

22.6 million deaths by 2030. That's what could happen if we do nothing. New research from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) examines an unprecedented moment: for the first time in 30 years, major donors are cutting international aid simultaneously. The human toll: 22.6 million preventable deaths, including 5.4 million children under five This preliminary research, submitted to The Lancet Group, analyzes the impact on 93 developing nations. The scale is staggering—roughly equivalent to the combined populations of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, and Philadelphia. These aren't inevitable outcomes. We must act now to reimagine how the world works together to save these lives. Read more about the data: https://lnkd.in/eW_mih5w

The climate crisis is already a health crisis. Extreme heat now claims one life every minute, air pollution continues to worsen, and infectious diseases are spreading faster. That’s why today, at #COP30, over 35 global philanthropies are coming together with urgency and purpose—committing $300 million through the Climate & Health Funders Coalition to protect lives and livelihoods as the planet warms. This funding will strengthen health systems, improve the use of climate and health data, and scale locally led solutions that reach communities most at risk. It also supports the implementation of the Belém Health Action Plan—a landmark framework that puts health at the heart of climate action. The Rockefeller Foundation is proud to join our partners in this powerful step forward: Wellcome, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Gates Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Quadrature Climate Foundation, and Philanthropy Asia Alliance (by Temasek Trust). Maryland is leading the way in using artificial intelligence for public good. In partnership with Anthropic and Percepta, and supported by The Rockefeller Foundation, Gov. Wes Moore has announced the first phase of Maryland’s commitment to transforming government through responsible #AI, tackling challenges like child poverty, housing access, and government modernization. As our President Rajiv J. Shah said, “We believe AI can be a force for tremendous good in the right hands. We’re proud to support this pioneering partnership so Maryland can harness AI to improve services for families, modernize operations, and deliver real value to taxpayers.” Seventy years ago, a Foundation grant helped launch the field of artificial intelligence. Today, we're working to ensure that this technology fulfills its original promise: not just to make machines smarter, but to help us solve the problems that matter most to people's lives. This new partnership is one step in that direction — and an invitation to imagine what's possible when innovation meets public purpose.
